Speaker Dr. Patricia Kelley, Professor of Geology at University of North Carolina, Wilmington, is Distinguished Lecturer on Evolution and Society for the Paleontological Society. Dr. Kelley seeks to bridge the divide between the reality of evolution and beliefs maintained by the great religious traditions.
Speaker Dr. Andrea Hawkes is Assistant Professor of Geology in the Department of Geography and Geology, Center for Marine Science, at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Her main research interests include the development and application of environmental modeling and quantitative palaeoenvironmental reconstruction techniques with the aim of understanding the role of earthquakes, tsunamis, storms as driving mechanisms of Quaternary relative sea-level change and coastal evolution.
Graduate students in the department's Ph.D. program and M.S. programs will present their research to faculty, staff and students of Earth and Environment. Presentations can be volunteered for either a poster or short talk. Refreshments will be served in the morning and afternoon. A reception at the end will celebrate graduate research with awards for best talks and best posters. The schedule of presentations will be available in February.
