Our program started in 2005 with significant funding support from the United States Department of Agriculture-National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
Funding and Partnerships
Over the years, the program has received support from USDA Hispanic Serving Institutions, Multicultural Scholarship Program, International Science Education Program, and National Needs Fellows Program of over $5 million. This funding supports students at every level in Environmental Studies, Biological Sciences, Food and Dietetics, Economics and Business. These projects have led to partnerships with universities in India and Honduras.
Hispanic-Serving Agricultural DesignationWith South Florida’s unique Hispanic urban setting and year-round cropping conditions and challenges, there are many opportunities to expand research and technology developments in agriculture. Selected as one of 711 universities to receive the USDA’s Hispanic-Serving Agricultural Colleges and Universities designation, the program has increased opportunities to expand agricultural sciences activities.
We have grant funding for undergraduate and graduate students
