Admissions

All application materials should be submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions via the online Graduate Application. Use the graduate admission checklist to get started.

  • Deadlines
    • Priority deadline for Fall 2024 admission is May 1, 2024, 5 p.m. EST. The Final Deadline is June 1,2024. International applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their application no later than February 1st. 
  • Requirements

    Prospective students should contact Program Director Jesse Blanchard and Program Coordinator Cigdem Catmali before applying.

    • GPA: 3.0 in upper division coursework
    • GRE: Not required
    • Statement of Purpose: Required, up to 2,000 words describing academic and professional background and career aspirations. You may also include a copy of previous written scientific work
    • Letters of Recommendation: Required, 2 letters from former professors, academic advisers, employer or professional colleagues. Letters should be signed originals on official letterhead
    • Additional Requirements:
      • Resume or curriculum vitae
      • Official transcripts
      • Any other relevant information such as receipt of fellowships or scholarships supporting your studies
    • Requirements for International Applicants: 
      • Effective January 15, 2023 for Graduate applicants: If your post-secondary educational history includes coursework outside the United States, you must submit a course-by-course credential translation and evaluation, with grade point average (GPA) calculation included, for all non-U.S. coursework. FIU accepts evaluations/ translations from any NACES member evaluation servie. Please visit the NACES website here: NACES | Credentials Evaluations Provided by NACES Members.
      • Financial documents in the case a student visa is required
      • For international applicants whose native language is not English: Translation of transcripts and English proficiency exam scores; see Graduate Catalog for details. Minimum TOEFL score is 550 on paper-based, 213 on computer-based or 80 on internet-based
      • In order to obtain a student (F-1 or J-1) visa to study in the United States, the student must, among other things, be able to demonstrate that they have financial support to cover their expenses for the first year (tuition, books and living expenses). This money may be obtained from the student's own personal finances, a scholarship from the student’s own country, a scholarship from an international agency, or an FIU assistantship or scholarship.   • Funding


    This program costs $20,024 (all fees subject to change). The cost covers tuition, books and class materials, athletic fees, parking, breakfast and lunch on class Saturdays, professional development seminars and special events.
